The 75rt is like no other I have seen before. If you look closely at the pic (above) the side covers are odd to me. Also the fuel tank has a built in compartment on top and the abs ecu is mounted over the fi ecu under the seat! I'm not sure if it is a gem or a turd but will be fun to figure out. The 6" of solid ice on my drive way prompted me to leave the bikes and trailer at my brothers house 60 miles south of me. Plan on going down to do some more investigation today.

I think you've got a former police moto wearing a civilian fairing and seat. The electronics were probably shifted to accommodate other special equipment. Is the compartment similar to this one? This moto's sidecover profiles are similar.

Caveman, is it possible that your K75 started life with a job in some sort of law enforcement function or as an official escort vehicle?  It's possible the ABS brain was moved to allow the installation of a police radio box and solo seat.  I'm not sure what battery covers were used with a radio box, if at all. 

I could see the tank modification to make space for some piece of equipment.  The loss of tank capacity wouldn't be a big deal if the bike was being used for patrol or traffic control duty in a metropolitan department.  The white paint and 1 mph increments on the speedo also hint at an official use in the past.  K75 and 100 RT models were pretty popular with law enforcement.

I believe both of you are right. I guess I have never seen one before and the tank box and side covers are the same as the picture posted. It will be interesting to see how well the 750cc engine will push the big fairing and at what cost to fuel mileage. One bonus besides the "iconic" 22l top box it came with a set of city cases (as well as system 3 cases), something I have always wanted to get but never was fast enough to pick them up at a reasonable price.

Congrats on your new moto caveman! I wouldn't worry too much about the smaller 750's ability to push that fairing - my 75s returns a reliable 50 ish mpg no matter how it seems to be ridden ... optional blue lights and siren off ebay, perhaps?

Ilsa, my interstate slut, has no problem doing a steady 85+ with the massive RT fairing.  She does bounce around a bit when that big barn door gets caught in a crosswind.  Otherwise, she is a nice solid ride.

As far as fuel economy, she gets a pretty consistent 45-48mpg on 87 with 10% pretend fuel up to about 70mph.  Above that, efficiency gradually drops until she's getting around 40mpg at 85mph on 10% regular 87.

Those city cases were probably part of the police trim.  A lot of the police K bikes I've seen had front and rear crash bars.  The rear bars only stuck out enough to protect city cases.  Now that you mention them, are the city cases painted white?  Are there holes in the fairing for mounting lights?

I have seen photos of British police bikes with calibration stickers for the speedo.  It would be interesting to see if your speedo reads high like other Brick speedos.  You might have to be more careful if you don't have that optimistic 4-5mph "cushion".

I have a copple of 75s's myself one stock for short rides and one with barbacks and stuff to set up for touring. I have tried lots of different bikes but still haven't found anything I like more. The k100 s that I have are good for cold weather riding but really don't get rode much.

This one I want to get the seat height down low enough for my 5'2" wife to ride when we are out touring.

The city cases are normal black and in great shape and can't possibly have the 45k miles on them that the clock show's. As far as the 5 mph "cushion" I really don't pay much attention to the speed limit signs once out of town, I just go with the flow or rip if there isn't any traffic, side roads, and mail boxes. Hell for that matter I don't even pay attention to the XX MPH curve ahead signs they seem to be way to conservative. I don't recall a single sign on route 141 in Arizona or many on roads like it. It's not like I go flat out all the time I just don't slow down much to turn. By the way what was the speed limit on the road up through Bear Tooth Pass? It is good to know that it may get 45 mpg at 70 mph I'm lucky to get 50 mpg on my s at that speed.

Here's a shot of my GPS up at the top of the Bear Tooth Highway.  Note the 70mph speed limit(and the downhill switchbacks which are hung on the side of the mountain).  I'd like to see somebody get a speeding ticket on the road that is shown.

I only mentioned the speedometer accuracy because the K bike speedos are notoriously optimistic by 5-10%.
