I Forgot what the 3 switches are for ,..... Duh

After +/- 4 years off the road, this ‘93 K1100RS is back together. The good news is the fairing paint work and re-assemble is behind me, License sticker and Ins updated, bike runs like it was never asleep, goes down the road / stops etc!
 The down side is a couple of gremlins are causing issues:
  The ABS, red caution lights will not stop flashing. If I recall correct, the system needs a minor speed input, and both the brake actuated. I do that, still flashing. Checked the brake lights work front and back. Reboot, same thing. What did I forget, or is there really a mechanical problem? I did have the 2 computers disconnected while replacing the battery. I did disconnect battery cables before plug removals. I don’t recall that causing any problems in the past.
  Then, there is the Brain Fart...... I don’t recall what the 3 switches are for, or I should say the order. I know I have a heated grips, an ABS, and a Triangle Warning flasher switches. Just don’t recall the left to right order. There is a missing Logo on one of those switches, and the Warning Flasher is obvious. Not sure if I have the ABS on or off, or if that makes any difference!
  Lastly, the gas gage is AFU. It used to be so perfect! Maybe after 4 yrs, it got  some scum in a transmitter? At first it was simply stuck at the left off scale. Then after riding a bit, it woke up, but is erratic, makes no sense. Is the tank unit a simple potentiometer with a wiper?

Go to the Service Manual section of this site, download the K1100 riders manual and look on p.16. It illustrates the order of the switches in the crash pad. ABS doesn't have a selective On/Off function; it's either in one state or the other depending upon the condition of its components.

The ABS isn't an on/off switch.  It is a momentary "pushbutton" that stops the damn flashing for a couple miles when there is an ABS fault.  As long as the ABS is working and the ABS warning light goes out you don't need the switch. 

If you have an ABS fault that won't go away, you just need to pull the blue relays out.

Well Phooey, got ready to do battle with the ABS flashing, was kinda looking forward to the experience. Can’t find the diagnostic connector. Seat off, tank lifted, even looked inside the fuse box. Can’t find a plug with a blue cap, or a plug without a blue cap with 3 Yellow wires. Is that plug usually on the RH OR LH side ? Would a‘93 K11100RS likely have one?

Put the year of your K1100 in your profile. Run the last seven digits through a VIN check and post its year of manufacture. If the ABS modulators are visible near the left and right footpegs, it has ABS1. If they aren't visible, it has ABS2.

Read this document. Scroll down past the halfway point and you'll see a photo of the plug with a cap on it.

My ABS diagnostic plug is behind the right side battery cover, just at the back end of the fuel tank. The ABS computer needed a reset after I allowed a battery to go flat.  Some times it takes a few tries. A wire with an alligator clip and a probe work fine, otherwise I don't have enough hands to do the reset (I have tried!)
