Help to I.D. This windscreen

This was supposed to work on a K1100RS, but apparently I’m not smart enough to figure out how to make that happen. Can anyone help Identify this piece of plastic? Shown next to actual K1100RS screens that have broken mounting tabs.    :idunno

What is the marking on the lower centre of the screen. Broken tabs can be repaired. We have a local Perspex shop that does repairs, try your yellow pages for a repairer. I've repaired my broken 75s screen with slow set super glue and Zip Kicker.

The instructions in your photo indicate the screen is made by Gustafsson Fairings and their website has installation instructions and video. They don't list a screen for a K1100RS; they only list one for a K100RS. Yours seems like the K100RS model. The screen frames of the K1100RS and the K100RS have the same part numbers in Max's parts fiche, suggesting the contours are the same but that screen was not advertised by Gustafsson as fitting a K1100.

Martin's suggestion is the way to go and opens the possiblility of restoration.

I have repaired the broken tabs on two RS screens by simply taking a strip of brass from the hobby shop, drilling a hole in it for the tab's screw and using it to hold the screen in place. 

It works because all the repair needs to do is hold the screen forward in the opening.  I just put the screen in with the remaining intact tabs, and then install the screw with the brass.

If I can get some time tomorrow, I'll take the trim off and try to get a photo of what I did.

That is a Gustafsson windshield. According to their website, it requires drilling for a K 1100 RS. The correct drillbit  ( acrylic ) is supplied with the windshield. Check their website for more.

OK, so what I understand is this screen could work on a K100RS with some drilling. It will not work on a K1100RS.
The tabs on the K1100RS screen are at an angle, not flat with the screen surface. That aside from the fact they are outside of the edge.  There is no marking on this plastic part, so I can’t check Model application with a part Number on the Gustafson site. Holding it up to the fairing makes it obvious not intended for this bike. I guess there are folks that think K100 / K1100 parts are interchangeable.....  If Gustafson is still in business, I may try to contact them on the subject.

I guess I didn’t know there was a K100RS and K1100RS both in 1993? Is that correct? From the Gustafson site, this shows the same style upper fairing as a K1100RS. Of course the screen mounting is not clear here but I can see how a person would assume they are the same.
  The screen I have is Option 2, with a 4” top extension.  Again copied from the Gustafson site.

Assumptions are the Devil's tools.  :laughing4-giggles:

The K1100RS was introduced in 11/92 and K100RS production ended in 02/92 according to MaxBmw's parts fiche. Where Gustafsson got its information is anybody's guess.

Gustafsson offers a screen for the K100RS. It doesn't offer one for the K1100RS. There are ways to find out if one will work on the other, among them—trying to install it, or contacting the company for an explanation.

According to MaxBMW and my experience with K100RS 2v and 4v and K1100RS fairings, the same black windscreen p/n 46 63 1 455 937 is the only part used on all models.  The only other windscreen part number is for the clear version which is also used on all RS models. 

These screens are completely interchangeable between all the bikes I've owned.  This makes sense because the fairing itself is the same part number across all models as well.

What do you suppose is the purpose of the radius cut on each side of the screen extension—a style element or an accommodation for the airfoil?

I haven't the slightest idea.  Just spent 20 minutes I'll never get back looking for a photo of the screen installed on a K100RS.  I am beginning to doubt that anyone has figured out how to install one of those screens on a K100RS.

I'll guess the cuts were made before the sheet was bent to prevent other distortion.

I'm glad I've seen this thread cause I like the RS,  but prob be way too loud for my ears, this screen is a good one. Maybe it came with four brackets to bolt on where the lugs are. Or make them.
