CrashBar's K11LT Improvement Thread
« on: November 23, 2011, 01:07:17 PM »
I'm posting pics of the various modifications I've make to my 93 K11LT over the last 12 years and 85,000 miles.  I've ridden it as far north as the James Bay Road (twice) and St Anthony Newfoundland, as far south as Natchez LA via the Natchez Trace, and west to San Francisco via the Black Hills and US 50.  Several trips down the Blue Ridge Parkway as well.  35 States so far.    Still to come - Key West, Baja, Alaska, and the Trans Labrador.

Here it is at the 115K mark while camping in the Finger Lakes.

Here is the current summary of improvemnts:

Areoflow headlight cover
Parabellum Windshield +4 / +2
Baker Air Wings
Highway Pegs
Helmet Lock
Disc Lock Mount
Johnny Blanket
PIAAs
Oil Temp Gauge
R u s s e l l  Heated seat
Ohlin Shocks
Remus Exhaust
Tool Tube
Air Temp Gauge
GPS Mount
Oversized Shift Lever
Tourtech Rear Bag
R u s s e l l Back Rest
Fork Covers (now upgraded to Boots)
Passenger Floor Boards
RS topcase
Deer Whistles (YMMV, work for me)
Throttle Lock
First Aid Kit
Fuel Line Quick Release (again, YMMV)
Rear Wheel Air Fill Extension
Odyssey Battery

Parabellum Windshield.   +4 / +2.  Makes a big difference if you sit up high.  American Flag decal is the polite way to "my french is really lame" while in French speaking Canada.

Helmet Lock.  Great storage, especially as the stock K11 lock sucks so bad.  Easy Bolt-on

Disk Lock.   I drilled a small hole in the bag mount, now I can store the lock there and find it asap at night.

Johnny Blanket.   Took about 5 minutes to make.  Can't believe I didn’t do this years ago.

Ohlin Shock.   This one does NOT have the remote reserve.  ABS bike should have it.   Had to mount it backwards, not a good idea as it doesn’t really clear and I knocked off the top adjustment knob.

Remus.  Yes, we know what it rhymes with.   Lighter, great high-RPM sound, a bit loud for me.  Best part is it is two piece, makes rear wheel/ swingarm / spline  maintenance a lot easier.

Inside bag improvments.   Replaced the snap for the bag strap with a bolt (actually the back side of a bungee Buddy).  Also thru-bolted the bag to the rack, I've had them pop off on bumpy roads.

Air temp gauge - works great in this location, out of the sun and the engine heat.   PIAA switch is also here.

GPS mount.  Mounted where radio control used to be.   Power from Cigarette lighter inside now empty radio pocket (music and riding do not mix for me)

Oversized shift lever cover (http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcycle/K1100LT/8160431-432.html) and homemade bigfoot (too big, am making a better size / shape one this winter).

TourTech rear bag - this is off a GS, but works pretty good on the K11LT rack for odds and ends when I am really packed.

Beefed up Rack Mount -  ran a bolt right through the rack and tailpiece, keeps the bag from moving around
