Stumbled across this bike just now...  97 K1100RS.  He's asking $2000 for her.  Wish it wasn't so far away (~3hrs).  May drive up tomorrow to take a peek.

Description: BMW K1100RS in great riding shape. Well balanced, sporty looking bike for cruising with a few items in hard case luggage. Moving forces the sell of my favorite motorcycle. Found another RS but this is a K100... only one picture and supposedly the fairings are in "bad" shape.  It's close by so will take a peek at it tomorrow for sure.  He's asking $2200.

The 11 has a Russell seat!  Paint is nice, but doesn't look original on all the parts, especially the belly pan.  No big deal for the price.

Of the two... I'm liking the K1100 better.

I checked out the white RS today.  It wasn't in bad shape but it needed some work.  The seat was a bit torn up, the front turn signals were off and one of the mounting points was missing, some parts of the fairings were cracked, the wiring was tampered with, paint wasn't in very good shape.  All that said, it still appealed to me because it represented the "newer" generation bike with all the upgrades I've only read about... the paralever rear, it had the better front brakes, 16V vs 8, improved fuel injection electronics.  But it would require work that I'm not sure I'm interested in doing.  Told him I wanted to check out the 1100 tomorrow.

Was planning on heading up to check out that red K1100 up in Bellingham (which is close to the Canadian border)... a good 4 hour drive not counting traffic thru Tacoma and Seattle, but I hear traffic isn't as bad up there with the coronavirus scare.  Sunday night I figure I'd just checkout Craigslist real quick and found another K1100, a '96.  Asking price was $2675, has 59K miles on the clock...

The guy with the red K1100 texted me this morning asking if I was still coming up.  I toiled over that last night, trying to figure out how I could get way up there after work, maybe hauling a trailer, then to have to get back home.  So decided to check out the local one (the black one) today and told the other guy today just wasn't going to work and that Friday would be the best bet, which it was.

Then texted the guy with the white K100RS to see what his bottom line was.  His bike had some "minor" issues but would require some work to get some of the body parts back together and so forth.  It also had some issues with the temp gauge/sensor and one of the cluster lights would come on (would be the "choke" light on my bike but he said that's not what it was).  He said he'd come down to $1900.

Went to go see the black one this evening after work.  It was still nice and light out and weather was dry and sunny.  The thing was pretty immaculate!  It had some scrapes and looked like it may have dropped on the right mirror because it had some "surface" cracking but the mirror was still solid, really looked more superficial.  The guy recently dropped $2700 on it to replace the clutch, new front rotors and pads and fluid reservoir, throttle body adjustment, spline lube, and a few other things.  Asked him why he decided to sell it after putting that much money into it.  So he showed me.  He came across a great deal on a 2016 or so K1200 so his old bike had to go.  I took the 1100 out for a spin (after killing it several times trying to leave his driveway).  It has a staintune muffler that sounds amazing, a bit throaty.  It shifted so much better than my 85 K100.  Steering was quite a bit more sensitive too.  Plus it has a fuel gauge that actually works, and doesn't smoke after sitting on the kick stand! Toiled over whether to buy it or not for quite a while.  Asked him if he would take $2000 (sort of felt guilty throwing that out there knowing what he recently spent on it but what the heck).  He said that was too low and tossed out $2400.  I accepted and am now proud owner of said K1100.  Thing is, now I feel like I'm cheating on my red bike!  :laughing4-giggles:

I couldn't drive it and my car home so got the title signed over and will pick it up on Wednesday.  I'm looking forward to taking it out for a bit of a shake down.  Hoping that it really won't be needing any work!  Will most likely sell the other two bikes (so that I don't feel as guilty for buying this one).

That backrest for the passenger comes off and actually wasn't on there when I looked at it today.  He had a few extra parts to toss in there as well.

Congrats on your new ride, it looks in great shape. Are you going to the MOA Rally in MT? We're getting a place nearby for skiers, climbers, riders to loiter at.

good purchase.  my brother and I were looking at that ad resisting our desire to just go get it.  it was a great deal at $2700...

think you meant 2006 on the K1200, not 2016.  2008 was last year for the k1200

Thank you for the correction... I couldn't remember what year he told me on the K1200.  2006 makes sense because he commented about upgrading every 10 years and the bike he sold was '96.  The color of the K1100 wasn't my first choice but it was in such great condition.  I suppose I could have held off and waited for something else to come along.  I wasn't keen on driving all the way up to Bellingham for that red one  :laughing4-giggles:

I'm picking it up tomorrow night and can't wait to get my hands on it again!

Where abouts do you live?  I'm up in the 'Couv.

Just an fyi....

I informed the guy selling the red K1100 at the top of this post that I decided to buy the local one.  He dropped his price to $1800.  It's up in Bellingham Washington.

I picked up the charcoal one last night and drove it home.  It was a little weird turning the handlebars, seeing the bike turn, but having the mirrors and fairing not move  :laughing4-giggles:  The steering is a bit more sensitive but more stable at the same time.  The one thing I also noted was that it seemed to be a bit more difficult to turn at slower speeds.  I need to sort that out.  Perhaps, again, its the visual of having the mirrors and fairing not move that my brain is struggling with.

Thanks for the update.

As we know, successful slow-speed turning depends upon counterbalancing the moto and turning our heads and eyes toward where we want to go. Feck the seductive mirrors and fairing. Keep a picture of them in your wallet. :laughing4-giggles:

The only faired bike I've ever owned is my K100RS. I wonder if I rode a Street Glide or something with a fork-mounted fairing I'd find it weird that everything was moving instead of staying where it belonged.

Hard steering is often low tire pressure.  Check it.  38psi front 42 rear.

I was trying to pay a bit closer attention to the "slow" speed steering yesterday.  "Slow" being slow enough to where I need to turn the handlebars vs counter steer.  Starting the turn is no problem, she rolls in nicely, but then she wants to straighten/stand back up.  I'll need to pay more attention to my throttle to see if I'm causing that myself by giving more throttle.  Or maybe I'll just do some turns in a parking lot somewhere to get used to it.  I did notice I could counter this with more pressure on the handlebar but it just seemed unnatural, like I was fighting the bike's natural tendency.

greetings...

mine does what you are describing when it is need of a stering head bearing adjustment...

i perform the copper coupling adjustment... then its back to normal steering for a few years...

the rear suspension sag causes that sensation too when in the yeeehaaa zone... there is a sweet spot... i have to chase it as my tiors wear...
