New to the Forum and the Brick

Hi

A friend bought a 1985 K100 brick for a cafe racer project however it proved a little beyond him ....... he had sold the fairings, purchased headlight, LED indicators and a u frame for the cafe racer seat, but that was about it. I offered to take over the project for his costs to date and now I have a Brick.

At present just planning the project and then will start the full strip. Aiming for something like the attached as the finished product.

last i head the new owner had thrown it in a dumpster cause he relooped it then could not start it...

The first post informs us that the fairings were sold before TrashHauler purchased the moto. I'm answering not because I care but because I'm practicing syntax.

And yet there they are, in the photograph, as big as life!!

I guess knowing that they may be going to revitalize someone's "bring it back to original state" dream, rather than a bin somewhere, is a bit comforting for those of us who like to keep it original.

I wonder if syntax is better with the negative before the positive or the other way around.

I think negative before positive, because current travels towards the negative while charge travels away. If you don't have any electrons in motion, no current, no voltage. The electron surplus starts out on the negative terminal, then they flow to the positive. Thus, negative first, most especially in syntax. Right?

Otherwise known as "easy way to make an eminently rideable bike unrideable".  It stops being what it was designed to be, instead best described as a fashion accessory.
I expect my bias is obvious.

Well ..... the project has started. Cleaned out the garages d started stripping. Frame ready for separation from engine / drive train.

Hi Trash Hauler. Looks like you have a good project on your hands. Despite some of the negative comments from the purist's, you will find this site a wealth of information. There are plenty of good and bad custom projects here and any of the problems that you come across (and there will be plenty) have been solved here before. 
Some of the guys here have owned and ridden K bikes for ever and some of them are even helpful  .
Completing my build was a lot easier because of this resource.
So welcome aboard and good luck.

By the way when they refer to de-looping they mean the complete removal of the rear end and either chopping or replacing with a short hoop at the rear end. Like yours

Thanks Skunky - I really happened on to this project by chance but I am glad I did. I have always liked the variation in cafe racers and when a friend asked to give him a hand with his K100 I discovered they are some of the best and varied examples out there. I offered to take it off his hands and now I have the project and having a ball.

I have already found the site very helpful.

When you de-loop the moto your downunder neighbor is collecting the unwanted frame tubing for his new hobby

Notable differences of the pre-85/86 K100 are the seat pan design with matching tail cowl section, the water/oil pump design changed, throttle cable design and fuel tank/fuel level sender/fuel return check valve.

Your 8/84 may have the European "hotter" cams known as "Finest Year K"

The pre-1985/86 has molded pillion handles as part of the seat pan, metal or plastic seat pan.
Post-1985/86 removed handles from seat pan and added handles to the tail cowl section.

Throttle cables have 2 versions and lower brackets. Cable lengths vary with handlebars.
#1 version- have a adjustment sleeve approx. halfway down length
2nd version black plastic collar at the lower end or a white plastic collar

Pre-1985 fuel tank has a rear mounting tab later removed.
Early fuel lever sender is a thermistor type later is a float type.
