PRICE REDUCED: BMW K75 standard, Ann Arbor, MI, $2400

Selling my 1991 BMW K75. I adopted my uncle’s Moto Guzzi last spring, and I can’t really justify having 2 bikes, particularly starting residency next year and moving to Albuquerque in the next month or so.


PRICE REDUCED to $2400 for Pandemic special. A K75 Motobrick is an MD Approved way to help Socially distance yourself on the open road. Use your stimulus check to pay for half.

Overall, the bike is in good shape. Mechanically it’s a 9/10. Cosmetically a 7/10. It has some specific important upgrades. I’ve had it since fall 2009 and have ridden it over 30,000 miles. I can do cash or paypal/venmo/etc. I can also potentially arrange shipping. If you are doing a fly and ride, DTW close by. 


Key details:
~114k miles (still being ridden). Includes hard cases and with type 1 latches in good condition, top-box with lock, tank bag, national cycle windshield, corbin seat, works performance shock.


It had a major overhaul at 100k in the summer of 2013. This included:
-          Replaced engine with low mileage (~30k) 1994 core.
o   Disassembled, cleaned, and inspected, replaced all gaskets/seals
o   Replaced a couple bearings that felt notchy in the alternator drive path
o   Installed recently Rebuilt water/oil pump
o   Thoroughly cleaned starter motor
-          Disassemble, inspect, and reseal transmission
-          New clutch assembly. Input shaft on transmission is hardened and in good condition.


Other major work done since new:
-          Bruno’s machine shop driveshaft and rebuilt Final Drive (see upgrades)
-          Replaced Front and rear brake rotors. Front are at new spec, rear are close to new. Rear caliper rebuilt.
-          Replaced wiring harness due to short-circuit from abrasion/flex. Added high amp fuses for main bus.
-          Newer rebuilt/matched fuel injectors, fuel pump damper
-          In last 15k miles, New Steering head bearings, Swingarm bearings, wheel bearings, fork seals
-          Newer tires (~3k on rear, ~2k on front)

Modifications/Upgrades:
-          Works performance rear shock with adjustable triple rate spring/remote reservoir Rebuilt at ~102k miles in 2014.
-          Stainless steel Braided brake lines
-          Bruno’s Machine shop Rebuilt Driveshaft and final drive unit at ~85k miles. New FD bearing and U joint installed. Spline cup is hardened, elongated, and contains a grease reservoir. The FD splines are elongated and hardened as well. The splines are also cut deeper to have more engagement. This shaft and FD should last indefinitely if maintained.
-          700W alternator. New bearings when installed
-          Headlight relays
-          Mounts for fog/driving lights. Switch installed in dash for this.
-          Corbin Seat: In relatively good shape, some cracking of leather at front of seat
-          Heated Grips
 
Current issues:
-          GPI Switch is flaky. Usually starts working once the weather warms up for a while and it gets used a bit. Usually has the most issue with neutral and 1/2. I tried to restore it/seal it last time I had the swingarm off, which helped a bit. If you want the GPI, you’ll need to replace it, perhaps next time it’s due for a spline lube.
-          Minor “bounce” in front wheel, only appears at 38mph. Probably a very slight dent in the rim. It was there when I bought it the wheel to replace my old replacement wheel which had a spun bearing.
o   There is the original wheel for this bike at GP frame and wheel in Sacramento, which has been repaired. I can make arrangements to ship it to a buyer in the near future.
-          A couple paint chips/cracks. Nothing major
-          Small (barely visible) dent in the left side of the tank from a bike’s handlebar.
 
Included spare parts, etc:
                5 lock cylinders for type 3 latches (if you want to upgrade)
                Many spare valve shims.
                Spare PCV Z-Hose
                Bag of bolts
                Spare water pump seals
                Several Oil filter cover o-rings, misc crush washers
                Extra wiring harness pieces
                Brush rings for alternator
                Spare front brake pads
                Some extra Seat Hardware
                Probably will have some other stuff I’m forgetting
                Can include a Motobrick MPG gauge or kit (not installed)
                Haynes Manual
                Owner's manual

The Guzzi is really unique, I'd definitely recommend one at some point. The California is like a combination of a Harley, BMW, and Ducati. It's a cruiser with floorboards, but it handles like the best handling sportbikes of the late 70s (the Tonti Guzzi's). Whack the throttle and you get this great rumble from the resonance of the intake, sounds a bit like a muscle car with the 90 degree twin. The bike shakes as the engine is loaded, but it's very smooth, particularly in the right RPMS, and you can cruise all day, as easily as an airhead. My biggest gripe is that it definitely doesn't have the fit and finish of the BMW. Usually only shows up on minor stuff though (switchgear, etc).

Anyone looking for a nice bike should consider this one.  Those of us who have been around here for a while know that it has been very well maintained and is in good, solid condition.  I wish I didn't have three in the garage already and a situation that requires downsizing.

Thanks! I'm going to be doing Internal Medicine. I will find out where I go March 20th. Hopefully will be staying at Michigan, but most likely going to be in the southwest if I don't match at UM. One of the programs even managed to pair me with an interviewer who does a lot of adventure riding.


Motobrick has been a great community, I'll definitely pop in once in a while.

My folks picked up the spare wheel in Sacramento the other day. I'll have it in Michigan in May when they check it for graduation, and can mail it to whoever buys the K75. Will be worth swapping it out next time it needs front rubber.

And I'm officially headed to University of New Mexico! I start in mid June.


So if someone is interested there, I could potentially ship it at a lower cost as we are moving our other stuff. Or potentially have a friend join me while I ride the Moto Guzzi to ABQ.

Gear Position Indicator (switch)


It has a national cycle windshield, I think a "Deflector" model. It's 17 x 15 inches.

Thanks! Looking like I will be keeping it this year, since the DMV is closed here, and not a lot of people are interested. Currently planning on having my friend from college ride it to NM with me, which should be nice, since no one is on the roads right now.


The LM's are great! The Cali is definitely a unique bike. Nothing else is quite like it.
