Customs Coolant Expansion Tanks. Follow on from 2016 Post

Hello Brickers,

I recently dropped my custom 90' K100rs 16v and smashed up the coolant expansion tank, along with the right footrest. The bike needs some internal inspection anyway so i'm not too upset about this extra work. I am happy to share the video of me dropping my bike for the amusement of the forum  44271

 I've been reviewing my options and was wondering if there was any follow up from this previous post : (https://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=7838.0).

I would like to use an alternative to the stock expansion tank, something I can hide away.

My main question is, does the expansion tank need to be vented? will I get away with running a hose into a suitable container without a vent....

It would also be great to see some other coolant expansion tank replacements....

I hope you weren't injured in the crash. Review of video clips is always great to see where technique and awareness can be improved. Dan Dan The Fireman has a bunch of "after action analysis" clips on YouTube.

The bricks expansion tank hasn't been replaced yet (as I replace the plastics with aluminum or 304 stainless). On the car's, they are all vented with a siphon tube loop ... no vent on the caps. The brick has never dribbled, so I'll probably weld up the same volume tank w/o a sight gauge tube.

Cooling system needs to be vented otherwise the trapped steam increases the atmospheric pressure inside cooling system.
If pressure is increased by 15 psi, or 15 pounds above normal sea-level pressure the boiling point of water is increased from 212°F to 250°F.
