New K75 Owner from Massachusetts
« on: December 31, 2019, 03:18:27 PM »
Good Day, I'm a relatively new rider (I started at 68). I am a newer BMW rider, I took delivery of a 1992 K75 this morning and I rode it into my garage. So though I've ridden 20,000 miles on my Kawasaki and my Triumph, I've only ridden 25 feet on my BMW.

Originally I began searching for a Brick for a Cafe or Tracker donor bike. Now that I have this bike, and all the Tupperware appears to be intact, I'm thinking that I may end up using this as a winter bike or a long-distance bike. I love my Thruxton, but I can only ride for 45 minutes to an hour before I need a break.

I've been lurking on the Motobrick site for a few weeks. I'm looking forward to learning from the experts.

Have a great New Year!

Welcome! Congratulations on your purchase.

It looks like that right-side case was launched at one time or another; maybe there was a tip-over and it saved the moto from more severe damage other than the right-side mirror housing. Lock all the latches whenever riding with the cases attached and they're more likely to arrive with you.

Congrats on your K buy, nice looking bike.
Although I have a K75S, it's got barback's that set your position more upright. No problem with riding a tank of fuel off before taking a break (with a comfort seat.)
There have been several post's for keen idea's on Z-mount blockers to keep cases from spontaneous detachment.
25ft in the snow is still waaaay braver than me :)  Cheers!

Welcome!  That looks like the bike from MaxBMW that was posted here recently.  If so, I think you got a pretty good deal.

A K75RT with the Russell seat like yours is a great bike for chasing the horizon across the great plains.

Let me know if you need a mirror pod.  I have a couple here without glass that I can prep and get to you for the cost of postage.  All you need is to do is put some paint on it.

Allegedly the case opened while the bike was in motion. It ground the lock and half the latch down to nothing. I thought the bike had been dumped, but there is no rash on crash bars, bar ends, levers, fairings, pegs, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out how to finesse the luggage off the frame. It seems like it would be simple, but...

Yes, the bike came from Max BMW in NH. I've been surfing the web for K75's for a few months and this old beater was still hanging around and the price dropped enough for me to take the plunge. The bike has some issues, but I expected that with the price and no warranty. I'll be sharing more about that as I dig into this project.

I'd love to take you up on your offer for a Right Hand Mirror Pod. I had to go out to the garage and dissect the broken mirror to figure out how the thing was assembled and installed. Please e-mail or PM me to work out the details. Much appreciated.

Nice brick!
You've come to the right place for the care and feeding of your bike.  If you don't do your own maintenance, it is time to start.

Welcome.

+1, good colour.
Inside the bag you will probably see fixing points for a strap, which prevents the lid from opening much more than 90 degrees. It's probably missing, or fixed to only one side. Maybe, or there might have been some radical cornering.

Congrats on the RT and welcome to the site. I'm on the hunt for an RT myself but Santa missed my house this year, apparently. I almost called on this one, hope it's a good deal for you.

Love that color.  Congrats and welcome.  The secret to the joy of this asylum is when-if -you embark on servicing that machine yourself- very satisfying in deed.

Happy New Year sir!  You are starting off right.

PS-?it’s scientifically proven red cycles are faster, last longer and dang it people just love ‘em best.
