front brake master cylinder seals
« on: October 24, 2019, 04:17:33 PM »
i can not find a place that  only sells the 13mm seals for the front brakes master cylinder, i only see expensive rebuild kits. is there another bike that uses the same seals?

If there is, somebody is sure to let you know.

What's the problem and what have you done to correct it?

Try a friendly brake specialist. Most can't be bothered, however there are still some that seem to be prepared to help. I've got a local guy who is pretty helpful. We also have a local guy who re-sleeves cylinders and calipers with imperial sized stainless. Last time I checked it was $200.00 Au for the front master cylinder re- sleeve  and new brass piston, and once done replacement cups were $10.00 Au. He guarantees and tests all work, and will ship overseas. I've gotten rear master cylinder boots off him for $4.00 Au.
Regards Martin.

well, i have a project bike, a 1991 K100 RS with ABS that sat a long time. the front brake master cylinder was froozen. after 4 days of trying to get the piston out of the bore, i succeeded but found that one of the seals was shot but the rest of the internal parts look good and the cylinder bore cleaned up well with a 12 gal shotgun bore brush. i am trying to avoid spending over $70 for a rebuild kit when one seal should do it.

Post a request in the FS~WTB~WTT section of the Motobrick Marketplace. Somebody might have a working used part. I recently repaired one with a used piston. I polished the bore thoroughly using an extra fine metal polishing pad like a ScotchBrite. I haven't seen alternatives for oem pistons and seals posted yet.
