thin walled, oil filter removal tool for K75
« on: October 15, 2019, 05:40:54 PM »
Just discovered that none of my collection of oil filter removal tools, fits intomy K75 S filter cavity.  It appears that the oil filter removal tool, has to be a thin walled version, to fit into the filter opening space.

Anyone have a suggested source for this tool, possibly less expensive than the BMW dealer?

Thanks.

Try Aliexpress if your not in a hurry.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pc-Black-Steel-74mm-14-Flute-Oil-Filter-Wrench-Cap-Housing-Tool-Socket-Removal-For-BMW/33044682775.html? They look identical to mine that cost $20.00 + 20 years ago.

I bought a cheap wrench at Carquest that works great with the $6 filters I buy there.  Literally, a true win win.

Thanks all for the good tips. I stopped by Auto Zone, with my BMW filter in hand, and found the correct tool. Plus, it was just $6 bucks.

As far as removing old oil filters goes, you can't go wrong with construction screws.  Just screw a wood handle to filter can.  But having the correct wrench is really nice.

I once used large needle nose vice grips to partially crush the old filters, which made enough room to get a pair of plumbers pliers in there and unscrew it.  Not the easiest way but it worked.
