Splines. What's the best way

Been away for a while having sold my 1100LT but am now considering a K100RS.
I keep reading about the gearbox spline issue and its putting me off.
Can anyone offer words of comfort.
I'm looking at two excellent examples, one with 35,000 miles and the other with a staggeringly low 9,000 miles.

what's the best way to do what?  to inspect them you need to pull the rear end off.  They need greasing with a good moly lube about every 20-40,000 miles so theoretically either of the examples you're looking at shouldn't have excessive wear, at least if the odometers are correct.

A K100RS with only 9,000 miles on it will be an absolute horror show of problems the least of which will be the gear box splines(otherwise known as the clutch splines).

My advice to you is to immediately send the seller's contact information to me by private message and forget about that bike.

Unfortunately, ultra low mileage at this age will almost definitely mean the 30+ year old grease applied at the factory will have dried up and gone off.

Being as how there is a couple thousand miles of pretty deep water between that bike and my garage, I guess I will have to let it be your cross to bear.

So, I guess mine, with 32K showing on the clock, will not need attention? LOL
I just hope the local Jap dealer has that Honda lube in stock.

Too be honest, any bike that old with that few miles on, will probably need a fair amount of work on it, as a lot of the rubber parts will be close to perishing, and a fair few of the electrical connections, could require a decent amount of attention, I would imagine.

RE:  K100RS Mileage

I see a few low mileage 2V Ks coming up - But in my experience this often means the speedo has spent 80% of it's life asleep.

Take the speedo apart - fix it - It will work fine for 6 months - then dies.

So clock mileage not the greatest indicator of real miles IMO on those early 2 valves.
