Smoke signals

So, I had occasional clouds on startup, which is normal for most BMWs that have one or two heads sideways.

Today, I've been getting smoke around me every time I'd stop at a light.

Crankcase vent is new end of last season, so are valve clearances. The bike has around 60K, give or take for wonky speedometer. It seems a bit early for rings or valve seals to go, but what's the conventional wisdom?

Could be just more oil than usual got past the rings and it's taking a while to burn off.

Oil dripping on headers? Maybe clean exhaust.

Leaky header/muffler connections?

What colour smoke? Hopefully no bubbles in coolant.

Pretty sure no drips, at least not to that extent. My oil leaks cleared up when I replaced the crank cover gasket, oil sight glass,  and all the little rubber mushroom heads under bolts for both covers.

There is some smoke getting out of where header bolts to the engine. More is coming out the tailpipe.

Last night I parked in a cloud big enough that my passenger was kinda concerned we were on fire.

This morning, started and ran all the way to work with nary a puff.

'Tis a puzzlement.

As has been stated many times many people, Bricks don't like sitting. Numerous bikes have suffered from the sticky ring syndrome which can be sometimes cured by MMO or it's like. However sometimes they just free up with riding.

Thing is, it doesn't normally sit for more than a weekend, or a really bad weather day. I ride to work daily.

It doesn't differ for a Brick. High revs are la messa a punto italiana during those minutes.
