K100 Rear Wheel Spline. Why?
« on: March 21, 2019, 09:15:48 AM »
Hi all - quick question I couldn't seem to find the answer to:

Looking at a rear K100 wheel ('86 RS) it has a splined inner center. However, the hub the wheel bolts to doesn't have any sort of splined shaft for this to mate up with.
Anyone know why the wheel is splined?

Thanks

I don't think those are splines, just leftover molding or machining marks.  Another example.....

That crossed my mind too since they dont appear to have any sort of wear ...

K's are supposed to us a balance shaft adapter that bolts to the lug nut holes, the center hole is not necessarily machined accurately in the center

Here is a sample of an alternative for rear wheel balancing without the bolt-on feature.
