K1100LT Temp gauge & fan
« on: March 17, 2019, 04:14:16 AM »
Hi. I got an aftermarket temp gauge for my 92 K1100LT. Is this likely to work, as I recall some comment about specialist BMW senders/guages?

Also, does anyone know which relay and which pin that I need to put an earth on to install a manual fan switch on the K11. I found an old post about the K75, basically to put switch between earth and the E pin of the temperature switching unit. Is that right?

Below is diagram from the very helpful Mighty Gryphon.

The 1100LT's do not use a temperature control relay like the older k75's so the image you have there is of no use.

Being you say your bike is a '92, I'm guessing that it is also ABSI, in the forward half of your relay box you should have a cluster of 4 relays on the right and 3 relays on the left(2 of which should be blue).
2nd post in this thread shows the relay box layout: http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,536.0.html

For a manual fan switch, connect to the 'blue/yellow' wire of the relay-- thru a switch-- then connect the other side of the switch to a good ground.

As long as you have a matching sending unit for your new gauge, you should be fine.
