Windshield RT or LT for 1500 mile trip?
« on: February 21, 2019, 11:56:55 AM »
My '85 K100RT came with both an LT windshield (with the side wings), and the RT windshield. Currently I've got the RT windshield mounted without the deflector strip, mainly because I liked the looks better.

Next week I'm planning a trip, 700 miles one way, a bit of traveling in the area, then back a few days later.

Would it be more comfortable to install the LT windshield, or re-install the RT's deflector strip?

I'm 5' 10" with a Corbin seat (height consideration), traveling solo (no passenger in the downwash wake).

This time of the year, weather has to be a consideration. Install the windshield that affords you the best protection against possible inclement weather.

I find that the wider windshield is, the better it protects when the weather gets bad.  I don't have one, but I suspect the RT shield may not keep your shoulders out of the weather as well as the LT, which is what is on my horizon chaser.  With that shield I can stay pretty dry at speed, even in heavy rain.

I think both windshields are tall enough to keep most of the rain/snow off your helmet.  Or, at least, off your face shield.

Find a good paddock before you leave.

The more overweight you are, the higher the windscreen.
