A visit to my grand daughter in Tempe, AZ.
« on: October 16, 2011, 11:19:15 AM »
Donna & I took a trip to Phoenix this past week on my days off.   It was time to see how much my grand daughter, Madison, had grown.  Weather was just perfect for riding, we left Tuesday night as soon as I got off work - spent the night in Laughlin, NV., then off early Wednesday morning.

The route  (use the +  -  to enlarge the map  (thanks Frankenduck for the tip)

The ride to Laughlin is almost all 4 lane divided now - no more 2 lane, so driving at night is much safer now, the Twisted Throttle LED's  that I had put on really light up the road - one of the best items I have had added to the Beemer period - We stayed at the Golden Nugget (free room) had a late dinner and hit the rack.

We were on the road at 7:30 - our first stop was in Kingman, AZ. at the Crackerbarrel restaurant (we still had a little left on my gift card from my sister Susan), had another good breakfast.  Donna took a different view of me on the rocking chairs having my coffee.  The Beemer is in the back ground.

On I-40 headed east

South on Hwy 93

Perfect riding

I am at one with the BMW K universe

The ride down on Hwy 93 to Wickenburg is very good, mostly 4 lane, they are adding more lanes in the 2 lane areas, so we hit some construction north of Wickenburg

Headed east on Hwy 74

Donna enjoying some road food at the Chevron station at Hwy 74 & I 17   I just couldn't resist putting this one in - I'll pay when she sees this one !!

The reason for the ride - grand daughter Madison

Steve, Ashley & Madison

Why so serious ??

Matt arrived, so we headed to Fuddruckers for dinner.  Pretty good hamburger place, cooked to order with a condiment bar, so you build your own.  Steve had to work, so he missed dinner.

We stayed with Matt Wednesday night, he works very early, so we were up and on the road at 5:30 am.  I decided to take a different route back, we went north on Hwy 87 to Payson.  We stopped at a Chevron station at Ft. McDowell, had another cup of coffee and waited for the sun to come up.

Very good ride through the Saguaro Forest ..lots of big cactus

Hwy 87 is a great ride, over and down several passes, 4 lane divided - we will do this ride again

We stopped in Payson and had breakfast at a local cafe - we love stopping at these kind of places

More fun north of Payson on Hwy 87

We took County road 3 north towards Mormon lake, big Ponderosa pines lined the road

We stopped and just enjoyed the quiet, just perfect weather

No traffic - pure BMW heaven

Out of the forest and onto the flats nearing Mormon lake

We stopped again, Flagstaff is off in the distance at the foot of that mountain

The "official BMW portrait" for this trip

Back on I 40 headed west

North on Hwy 93 approaching Hoover Dam

Oh man, back in Vegas traffic.  We didn't time this well, we got back right at 5 pm - rush hour

Made it home at 6pm.  Total miles for this trip 837.  Now everyone keeps asking when and where for our next trip...I'm sure we will think of something...

Looks like good weather and good riding.

You mean LEDs, right?  Post up a review of them in The Shopping Cart when you have a few extra minutes.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
