Back again (UK)
« on: October 11, 2011, 09:21:27 AM »
after a succession of long-term ailments - don't ask - the medics have more-or-less pronounced me alive.  While I'm not quite ready to return to motorcycling just yet, in anticipation of the looming winter's cabin fever I have just acquired :

a 1998 K1100LT Highline.  26000 pampered miles and alarmingly clean.

Yes, it came from a dealer and even with haggling, yes I paid too much for it.  And yes the exhaust head studs and bolts need replacing - number one headers having sheared completely, bless my soul and bother me.  However the winter projects :

- autocom
- stereo upgrade
- auxiliary driving lights
- GPS
- K-Tail-2 and LED rear/brake light upgrades
& a possible suspension overhaul ( stronger springs and better shocks )

should keep me out of mischief.

Lookin' good.

Welcome.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Welcome Chris, brilliant site, nice looking bike that is worth what you wanna pay for it. My 1995 K1100RS cost me £2700, book says £2k tops. Where in the UK are you? I'm in Portsmouth.

Thanks for the welcomes - this site's resources will no doubt be invaluable in the days ahead so thanks in return to all who make it possible.

I'm in Burgess Hill (Mid-Sussex) so not too far away from k11pfc in Portsmouth.

The unflattering rear-end shot :

From previous experience - this is my 4th - I'm no great admirer of the LT's topbox/rack arrangement.  The box is far too heavy on the one hand and its plastic rack is too flimsy (wobbly) on the other, so I will travel light using a totebag if and when I can get back on the touring road.

As I said above, health issues mean I haven't actually ridden it yet so no doubt the upgrade shopping list will increase in due course.  F'rinstance it's currently shod with Avon something-or-others : I've always used and been happy with Bridgestone BT-45s in the past.  And for the sort of miles I will - hopefully- eventually be doing the ?comfort? seat should suffice, but if a better seat surfaces at some point, who knows ?

Anyway thanks once again.  I'll post more project pics/ride reports in due course.
