Lowering a Brick '75

I was looking for a simple way to lower my K75 without major mods like cutting damper tubes, shortening fork springs, changing seats and more like the custom builds (see Hammer Pants in Custom Motobricks). I wanted a way to un-do the changes if I didn't like the results. I wanted a quicker handling brick with a lower seat height than standard,  I'm 5'-10" and still have a difficult time getting out of sloped parking lots with the tall seat (not Corbin) on this bike. So I ground the corners off the handlebars and dropped the triple-clamps an inch, then to compensate the rear I reduced the pre-load on the rear shock to zero. Purists can weld their handlebar closed.

I like the new ride, the handling sensitivity (gain) is higher. Prior to the mod the bike seemed unsure where to go even with new Pirelli Sport Demons, now it stopped "wandering" for a line. Dropping the forks rotates the chassis about the rear tire contact patch, so rake and trail are decreased just a little. Result is quicker steering response particularly if you use counter-steer technique. Bike has a 14" shock, may try a 13" next.   If you ride fully loaded with a passenger I DON'T recommend this. To ensure your fender won't hit the fairing, measure how much travel you use. Tie a pipe-cleaner around your fork tube and go ride, check in a week.

barbacks give the the option of dropping the tubes without resorting to draconian methods

That's true with bar-backs, Hammer Pants did so as others have.   How do you like the new handling?  No negative handling characteristics (no Chaos) right?  Any 'dive' in low speed turns?

I lowered them less than an inch, and I have the 3/4" shorter shock which neutralized the effects a bit.  Seems to turn in a bit quicker but probably not noticeable if you wern't looking for it.
