ABS brake components same as non ABS?
« on: August 31, 2018, 02:12:03 AM »
I couldn't find the answer by searching, so here goes.

Leaving the question about abs vs non abs aside, I just want to remove mine.

I assume there are both ABS and non-ABS versions of my 1990 K100. Wikipedia is not very clear on this point, just says "Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were developed for K100 and K75 motorcycles and were installed on later models, which were among the first production motorcycles with this feature.[14] "

Are the pots/pads/calipers/wossname being used on both ABS and non-ABS 1990-versions the same?

I might have to prove that they are equal during the annual inspection (MOT equivalent) after ABS-removal. I guess I'll contact BMW here in Sweden and try to get some kind of approval, but I'd like to know these things in advance.

You could compare part numbers between ABS and non-ABS components; to help, use part lists from online resources such as realoem.com and Maxbmw.com.

Guys have removed ABS system components from their bikes, leaving just the basic braking components, and had adequate braking capability.  I don't know how legal that is in European countries which demand no modifications be made to safety systems on a vehicle from factory standard.

Whaddya know! I didn't read that "Read This Before Posting About Parts". I will do it next time! Promise.

Excellent suggestions. realoem shows only the extra parts for ABS on the exploded view for the front brake. Which should mean the rest of the components are the same.

On rear they show the caliper etc. in both exploded views, but with the same oem-number.

Good news for me! Thanks a lot.

This concludes my query.
