For Sale: 1990 BMW K1, German Spec
Price: $8500
Kilometers: 52,442
Mileage: 32,586
Location: Southeast Michigan, USA

Recently had a baby and am selling my motorcycles.  I purchased the BMW K1 from a gentleman in Germany while stationed there with the US Army in the summer of 2016.  The previous owner had owned the bike for 19 years and rode it regularly until he became too old to ride.  Soon after purchasing the motorcycle, I shipped it back to the United States and had it legally titled in Washington under the 25 Year Exception for classic vehicles.

In the spring of 2017, I had the vehicle inspected and all fluids replaced at Vallantine Motor Works, an independent motorcycle shop that exclusively works on BMW bikes.  Vallantine also replaced the fork seals and fluid, which showed signs of aging.  They reported that the vehicle is in excellent condition.

Mechanically, the bike runs as designed but does leak oil when the engine is hot (no leakage during storage).  The leak began immediately after Vallentine changed the oil in Spring of 2017, so I suspect a different oil may solve this issue.  Worst case, a new oil/water pump must be fitted (leak is from the oil/water pump weep hole).  Approximately 1000 miles have been put on the bike since the oil change.  All gauges and lights work as designed.  Original ABS functions as designed.  Brakes and tires have approximately 75% life remaining.  Needless to say, the bike is a thrill to ride and grabs attention wherever it goes, especially from those that know the unique history of the K1.

Cosmetically, the bike has scratches on the fairing where the previous owner tipped the bike in a parking lot (see photos).  Other signs of aging include cracks in the plastic typical of BMW K1s: on the front wheel cover and front map box (see photos).

The motorcycle comes with a clean Washington title and the following materials:
1)   Original Toolkit
2)   Original Owner’s Manuals (in German)
3)   Extra set of brake pads
This bike is a special piece of motorcycling history and I hope that it goes to an owner that can appreciate its heritage and lasting effect on BMW Motorrad.

Firm on price, please PM me if interested.  Check out the attached photos, my wife and I took them this week and details all the bike in all its glory as well as the cosmetic issues noted above.

Ride safe--
