K1100Lt stalls in rain
« on: August 20, 2018, 01:03:54 AM »
hello, was riding my 93 K1100Lt in the light -moderate rain, after about 15 minutes the engine seemed to lose power and  i coasted off to the side of the road.  I tried to restart the bike but the start switch did not spin the starter.  I waited for the rain to stop and an additional 15 minutes then I tried the starter again several times and the engine started.  This same situation has happened once before riding in the rain.  Can anyone give me some advice if you have had this issue before, thanks.

When you have the "no start" condition, what is happening with the rest of the electrical system of the bike. Do the fuel and temp gauges work? If you cycle the ignition switch does the fuel pump prime?
Sounds like the side stand(switch down on the bottom of the bike) is getting wet internally.

Hello, I believe when I turned the key the headlamp  and the instrument cluster and the fuel pump all activated.  But when I pressed the start switch, nothing happened, as though the switch was disconnected.  I will try to duplicate the problem with the  water hose  and check the switch for damage.  Thanks for the help.

Doing that might cause more problems elsewhere.

My old Spitfire used to stall in the rain, I just sprayed everything with WD-40 and that would cure it.
