Hi. Wondered if any of you have used a hydraulic lawnmower jack to lift and service your K bike? I assume if it were feasible, I'd have to put blocking in certain areas to lift with. Just didn't want to put pressure where I shouldn't when I'm changing tires.

I have the same jack and have done so. I put a steel plate across the two rubberized bars and put some leveling blocks on the plate. I did not find it to be very stable by itself, so I put a 2x6 under the jack and sticking out on either side and used some motorcycle tie-down straps for additional stability.

I re-positioned the jack fore and aft as needed to take off the wheels one at a time

Hi RobP. thanks for your input. That's what I figured I'd have to do. My question is: where are the "safe" points to place the leveling blocks so as to not hurt the engine?

I put blocks across the main oil sump and the transmission, depending on whether I wanted to lift the front or back wheel.

(I first removed the belly fairing and the bracket on my bike.)

I hear you, I'm hoping to lift the whole bike as I need to take both wheels off and get new tires mounted at the shop.

Hi, I had such a lift once and devised a set of outriggers to add stability to the K-bike.

The tie-off points were between the bracket on the jack, over the seat and onto the rear bracket on the jack. It was a very stable setup.

Something that all these replies have missed is the basic question that I have asked; where can I lift my K100 without damaging the engine? Can I put all of the bike's weight on the oil pan? I'm not worried about jack stability, (I'm a weldor/fabricator and can make jack stable). Just want to know what part of the bike I can lift against. Thanks.

i have seen bricks on those jacks... the way i take both wheels off is to put it on the center stand... take the rear off... put a jack stand under the fork and take the front off... the center stand holds it up and the jack stand keeps it balanced...

the answer is... you caint hurt that 3 screwed oil hatch with that jack... that hatch is stout...

I have a made a service box a la Chris Harris and to get the bike onto it I strap down the front wheel then jack the bike up using a piece of 4x2 across the center stand mounting bolts, the jack itself is just a normal scissor jack from my car, when the bike is high enough I slide the box underneath the main flat part of the engine so it is supported all the way across the length of the engine block.

I would say the engine is plenty strong enough. I support my bike on a stack of 2x8 chunks under the oil pan when I do spline lubes.

I'd like to see one too. The tree service uses hydraulic pole saws to nut limbs from their hydraulically operated bucket truck.

Thanks to all of you for your words of wisdom. I'm beginning to realize that the K100 is not just a typical motorcycle. Jacking up just any bike by its engine would certainly not be a good idea. I've worked on cars and trucks for almost 40 years, and if I tried to jack against the oil pan of any of those, there would certainly be damage.

j o - You withdraw your answer? BTW, I wasn't asking about jacking on the oil hatch, I was origionally just asking WHERE I could jack on the bike. I thought you were saying it was ok to jack up a K100 by its oil pan??? now I'm really confused! go back to my first post on this topic, if you look at the picture, it will clarify what I am talking about.

On the contrary, It is quite possible to jack the bike up using the oil pan as the base. That part is very strong. I do it all the time. I'd only suggest using padding such as plywood between the oil pan surface and jack to protect the finish.

All I can add is that if you lift on the oil drain plug you need to counter bore the piece of wood a bit to compensate for the plug which stands proud of the oil pan.

SPF dimensional lumber is just hard enough that the bike wobbles on the drain plug. Not a lot, but wobbles nonetheless. Annoying...

I have a similar jack,. I just take off the belly pan, center stand it and remove the rear, put one end of the bars under the oil pan , jack a little to get the front end up. and remove the front. the jacking surface has rubber on it and has not scratched or damaged the oil pan.
