Changing Hand Grips

Hey everyone. My left hand grip just slipped out so I'm talking the print to change the grips. Got the pro grip 699 and want sure how to get the throttle grip off.  It seems like people just cut through the grip.
Thought it would be best to check in before doing anything

It looks like they haven't been glued on so should just slide off. Sliding off can be assisted by inserting the long plastic pipe on a can of WD40 up the end of the grip. You then progressively move it around the circumference of the grip while giving a small burst of lube, at each rotation push the pipe in further. If it has been glued cutting it off is sometimes the only way to remove it. As far as fitting the new grips I've always used the wife's hairspray. Spray the inside of the grip with the hairspray which will act as a lubricant and allow you to slide it on easily. Once dry it will act as a adhesive. It doesn't seem to matter what brand hairspray the wife has used over the years they all seem to work, however she is currently using Schwarzkopf EC strong styling.  :hehehe To remove use the WD40 method.

compressed air .blow in around the switch end and circle around . should come right off. same for installation. be careful if cutting if you have heated grips

I was wondering about below the foam, the clutch side handle slides out (foam+plastic grip) because it wasn't glued properly/has worn out. So wouldn't I need to remove the same handle plastic grip out from the throttle grip?

 What Johnny said just tear that stuff off if you have to cut the plastic cut the plasticOr knock it off with a piece of wood it might be glued should come loose it’s really no biggie you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill

If I remember correctly the BMW needs to different size grips the throttle side is slightly larger I had to order two pairs but I was able to use the extra pair on a bike I could be wrong about this it could’ve been another brand motorcycle

Let's destroy the grip's end cap, if that's what it is. See if that dome indicated by the red arrow can be pried off with a screwdriver and if there is a screw beneath it. If it can and there is, unscrew it. If there isn't, and therefore you can't, put a punch or screwdriver against the grip end cap at the green arrow and start pounding. Anywhere you can introduce compressed air or slim WD40 spray nozzle, do it. Between the grip's inner flange and the switch gear would be the place to start spraying. Things are bound to relent. :giggles

Jo here's your big opportunity. Import OZ sticky hairspray change the label to OZ Grip Stick and Lube and sit back, watch the orders roll in and retire.

So to follow up (sorry for the late post).

I cut off the grip. Below the grip is the handlebar (left side) throttle (right side). I preferred cutting because I figured the glue would be difficult to remove and I didn't want to damage the throttle in any way.


I also looked up the control diagram because I just didn't understand the assembly of everything and found it really helpful
