OK finally exposed the clutch on my 92 K1100RS. Went to remove the bolts on the clutch and three have stripped. I am going to try to grab them with vice grips but any other words of advice?

Good thing I night all new ones!

Do you mean that the bolt head have broken off, or that the bolts will turn but not back out?

If it's the first condition, heat all them with a hair dryer or heat gun, spray with Liquid Wrench, tap on them with a hammer, wait a few minutes then try removing the ones that are still intact. A vice-grip could be used on the bolt shaft but there should be enough length to thread two nuts on the shaft, lock them together and back the shaft out by turning a wrench on the lower nut.

My appologies, let me clarify. The Allen key stripped in the bolt. The tool no longer gets good engagement. They are pretty shallow. Nothing broke thankfully. I believe I can grab the head of the bolt with vice grips.

The bolts were on there good. When they broke loose they did have a satisfying snap. I am having a hard time using the wood b lock to anti rotate the clutch with I think contributed to the issue.

I have had success using a torx head in the allen head when it is wrung out like that. You might have to tap it in with a hammer or rubber mallet.

So had to use a Dremel to cut slots in the head of the bolts and then used an impact driver to get them off. What a pain. I was being hopeful that I didn't need a new disc but with 82K on the clock I should have known better. Oh well..

So it turns out I need a new clutch friction plate. My local dealer can get me the part but is there a mail order place that any one can recommend? Wunderlich I see online.

To conclude : I bought the disk from Wunderlich for $249. I also got the assignment tool since I am scrapped for time.

Shows up tomorrow with Priority Mail. Not to shabby.

Priority mail was not included in the 249. It was $24 to get to CT. Tracking says it will get to me tomorrow.

Max SW said he was waiting to hear back from his warehouse be wasn't getting a call back. After the second fruitless call I started to look elsewhere and also when I started this post. Never got an answer and when I called at 5:30 I said don't worry about the disk but get me the cable and other things I needed. Hopefully they show up Tuesday as it was suggested. I can at least get the back end on before that.

So no I didn't get an answer.

Johnny - no clue what brand of disk it is.

A new friction disk is under $80 plus shipping.

Shipping is reasonable and they can expedite. At any rate cheaper than that by-the-nuts price Wunderlich scalped you for.

Tills only does Kbikes and specializes in classic Ks. Wish I'd have gotten to you sooner...

Save yourself the agony and just drill off the head and the bolt will fall off. They're supposed to be single-use bolts anyway. You should always have a few extras in the toolbox...

Motorhobo - well now i know about them for future needs. Transmission is back on and the bike will be assembled tonight.

So to follow up, I got the bike all together by Thursday night and Friday morning I set off for the White Mountains with my buddies.

No issues and she ran amazingly. She did use some oil (3/4 of a quart) on the way up. It was probably around 250 miles one way.

I am very happy with her. I do think that a previous previous owner cut the rear spring (evidence of a strange rusty end.)

The shock bottomed out a couple times until I set it to Hard. I weight ~160 lbs so I think that the shock is tired. Any recommendations?

Nice to hear you have your brick running well, but 3/4 of a quart in 250 miles sounds a bit high. Was the bike smoking a lot? Save me looking back through your posts; how long was it stored before you got it? How many miles does it have? I would suspect that you have some stuck rings. You might want to look into adding some Marvel Mystery Oil(MMO) to the crankcase and gas tank. Do a Google search on "stuck rings and Marvel Mystery oil" for guidance. I had some problems with oil consumption with Moby Brick, and MMO did some good in reducing oil usage.

So I received the bike from a friend who updated and he would ride it in season so it wasn't stored per say. It does smoke alot when I park it on the side stand and don't touch it for a while. The bike has 84K on the clock. My riding friends on this trip said that it definitely had the smell of burning oil but only smoked after a long downhill coast and smoke when I would get back on the throttle. I assume it is valve guides if it does that.

I am happy to try the MMO.

I have new plugs so I will pull them soon to do an inspection.
