Regarding the title. Since(besides other damage) the frame was bent so that it couldn't be straightened, the insurance company totaled the Moby Brick because the frame carries the VIN. I then bought a frame from a stripped 1991 K100RS 4V with clean title and dealer bill of sale from Steele's Cycles in Colorado. The Colorado frame was in incredible condition, must have spent most of it's time in the desert Southwest. Since the BMW frame paint is so thin, I touched up the spots I know have rust problems with POR 15 paint for extra protection.
In New York, salvage is defined as requiring more than 75% of market value in parts to repair. Since I was rebuilding the Colorado bike with parts I had around with a few more off of eBay I was well under that amount. Last week, I took the paperwork to the DMV and applied for a clean New York title. I should have it in a week or two.
I let the Craig's list ad expire and will wait until I have the title in hand before reposting. Outside of the jerks from all over wanting to broker it, the two local guys who did come to look at it were spooked by the Colorado title. I have been watching and researching prices, and it looks like the actual value is around $2200 to $2500. Since I can't see having it take up space while I wait for my dream buyer, I'm pricing it for the market. Will post for $2500 on CL, Motobrickers for $2250.
PS: I had it out for a quick ride yesterday. It runs great, shifts smooth, tracks well, and doesn't shake. I did notice that there was a small amount of brake fluid in the cover over the front brake master cylinder. I had the same thing happen the last two years when I bled the brakes. For some reason it leaks when bleeding, but not when I'm riding. In any event, I am keeping a close eye on it.
