Another Fuel System Question
« on: January 30, 2018, 02:59:13 PM »
I know you regulars are going to read this and be like yeah yeah but quick question. I've searched a ton and I think the answer is obvious...

My bike sat for a little as I have far too many projects to keep up with. I start the bike on occasion and take it to work and back but it's a whopping one mile. As you can imagine it takes me a while to get through even a gallon of gas. Anyway it started rough and seemed to be struggling maintaining a normal idle without the choke on... that was a month or 2 ago. It now doesn't start at all. I took off my fuel lid and inspected my tank. The damper is disintegrating when i touch it so obviously I need to replace that.  I'm guessing my fuel filter needs replacement.

What are the chances the pump is still fine? I know i'm at minimum going to need a new filter, pump filter/sock equivalent, new hoses... they are all hard as rocks and i actually cracked one in half just from light touch.

So I think that puts me at ~100 in hoses, filters, + rubber damper. Should I just get a whole kit with pump I think it's ~$200 from euromoto? I don't mind buying a pump like most but also do not like burning money. The insulation on my fuel sender wiring is also cracking and leaving exposed wire. This is all super common I know. My bike still cranks  like it wants to start.. just no fuel. Suggestions?

Sorry if this post bores anyone. I think i'm on the right track and good to handle it but it's always nice to get some feedback. especially with much more experienced people than i. I'll probably repair the wire on the sender with PTFE wire as stated in another post earlier. Unless  anyone has any other suggestions.

yeah, yeah  :sip:

You'll need to remove the pump to replace the damper so you can test it yourself in a container of fuel outside the fouled tank. Here is one of many threads that explains the process. If the pump works well, how long it will work well is anybody's guess.

Thanks for the spoon feedings. I actually ran across that post during my search. I skimmed it though and upon second reading caught the part about trying to reverse the pump and what not. Cheers!

even though it's all over the forum and stuff i'll still take some pics and write up the outcome so my post isn't completely useless and maybe another noob will bump into it and get some help.  Stand by.
