K100RS Fairing and Mirror wanted to help fix my stupidity
« on: January 22, 2018, 11:30:10 AM »

Hey all, I pulled a bit of a bonehead move and took my restored '85 K100RS out for a rip on roads that were salted/gritted a couple days prior. Hit a pile of schmoo in the middle of my lane and washed out.

I destroyed the lower fairing (pictured) as well as my left mirror pod (that contained a NOS turn signal lens)

If you have either the fairing or a complete mirror pod (or even a good lens...yeah, I know...), please let me know.

Sorry to see your fall. The fairings are made out of compressed fibre glass and can be repaired. While your damage does look bad I have seen worse resurrected. Gryph has done a few try his posts. At the moment I am chasing a set of K75s front indicators with the intention of trying to make a mold of them. You do have lens casting kits available in the US  and posts on how to use them. Someone needs to look into it, I see it as a viable way to easily replace the dwindling lens supply. I am still chasing lens molding kits in OZ so if anybody knows of a source PM me.

I heard of a place here in Costa Rica that will copy lenses for you.  I am taking my front LHS indicator lens to them soon to see if they can make a mold for me.  If they can and it doesn't cost the world I will post details here, there is a need for sure...

Thanks Filmcamera if we are to keep these Bricks on the road, time and effort needs to be invested.

I just tracked them down and spoke to them.

They do make copies of lenses so I am going to go and see what they say, hopefully tomorrow, watch this space...

If the price is right I will maybe order 10 or so to see if I can get a bulk price and then offer them (at cost) here - the only downside is the shipping but going from CR is not too bad, just a little slow.

So anyone who is interested in either a LHS or RHS front indicator lens for an RS let me know so I can get a rough count.

I'm fixin to make a mold and cast a few L/R krs lenses. If successful I have some available around mid-March.
