16v K100 Starting Problems
« on: September 20, 2011, 03:11:44 PM »
Hi all. New to the forum hope somebody can help. I have a 16v K100rs which sometimes does not turn over when I hit the start button. When this happens if I pull the clutch in it will start straight away. The gear position indicator works perfectly but I have noticed when it will not start that the neutral light is quite dim, when the bike fires up (clutch pulled in) the neutral light brightens considerably. This condition does not happen all the time but is quite annoying when it does. Incidentally I have tried shorting out the side stand position switch but this make no difference when the fault is present. Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks Russ

The starter button gets power from:

a) the clutch switch

or

b) the GPI circuit board in the instrument cluster

Sounds to me like your GPI board might be on the fritz.  That can be replaced as a separate part.  Part # 62111459238.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
