Neat Oil Funnel Trick
« on: October 25, 2017, 12:06:17 PM »
Neat oil funnel trick when changing your oil.  Just discovered this the other day.  Tired of cleaning up your funnel to change oil. Your standard plastic soda bottle will actually screw into the oil filler hole. So the funnel stays put and you can focus on the pouring. Just cut it down to an appropriate size, clean up any residual soda etc. and screw it into your filler hole. Chuck it out when your finished with it. Easy peasy. :2thumbup:

Genius!  Now I want to change my oil just to try it out.  Might have to cannibalize my stink bug catcher

Vermont residents take notice–this technique adds $0.05 to the cost of an oil change. :giggles

Been using this method on many bikes over the last 30 years, but don't try to force the bottle into the filler hole because the threads are not an exact match

Dang...didn't know a funnel was needed.  I just pour straight in from the bottle.  No funnel to make or clean.

Good cheap tip though!

Good point Mlytle, And true. I have poured straight from the bottle many times as well. And always just pour straight from the bottle in between oil changes to top her off.  It can be tedious and a little unnerving pouring 4 quarts into the "hole" like that. My last  oil change was from one of those 5 qt. jugs.  I guess the disposable funnel that screws in was born from using the 5 quart jug. The screw in funnel made it much easier for me.  YMMV   :dunno2:

BlueK11LT.   I have often used the cut off top from plastic bottles as a disposable funnel, but just recently discovered that they  actually will screw into the filler hole of a K bike  firm enough to hold it in place while you focus on pouring oil.
