aside from the normal fuses and such, I take a spare fuel filter.  Handy if I get a tank of bad gas.

Which spares are carried depends upon a rider's confidence, experience, ingenuity, tolerance for the unknown and of course, the bike's mechanical condition.

Carry a spare for anything you don't want to break.  I carry a spare HES assembly, fuel pump, clutch cable, clutch lever, shifter, and a fuel filter.   I also have a handful of fuses and a couple spare bulbs, a tire repair kit and a compressor. 

The most important thing is my AAA RV Plus card.

As per Gryph plus spark plugs, silicon self fusing tape, fuel line, fuel line clips, tie wire, two jumper wires with alligator clips.

The most important thing to carry is the nut on the seat :hehehe , who by diligent study has a thorough understanding of basic mechanics and more than rudimentary understanding of his machine based upon intimate (recommended maintenance) touching of said machine!  Most challenges you face will be unique to your machine...oh, an I phone w/access to this site also helps

Besides the stuff I listed above, I carry a notebook computer with WiFi to connect to the internet.  It has bookmarks for all sorts of information on the web as well as PDF copies of service manuals. 

I also have a "rescue box" at home of parts and some tools packed in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box ready to be addressed and mailed to me.  It saves having to explain to my wife, or whoever is at home, what I may need, what it looks like and where to find it.  I carry a list of what is in the box with me.  As I accumulate more miles on my bike I get more confident in it's reliability and I plan on carrying less with me, and putting more in the rescue box.

I have a rigorous maintenance program that goes over my bikes with a fine tooth comb every winter.  This is probably more important than whatever I can carry in the way of spares.

Got the tool kit, duct tape, zip ties, oil, bulbs, fuses, spark plugs, tire plugger, multi-meter, test light, tie-down straps, mini jump box, tire pump, and something I've used twice on the road... a spare clutch cable.


Like everyone else, a cell phone and credit card also top the list.

Yes, be sure to get a spare clutch cable and carry it.  The barrel at the clutch lever end tends to get dirty and start to bind causing the cable to fatigue and eventually break.  If you're like me it is easily forgotten as it should be regularly cleaned and lubed.  Be sure to carry some tape so you can pull the new one in by taping it to the old to be sure to get the correct routing, I had to use first aid tape last time!  I carry a spare cable and barrel that I get from BeemerBoneyard.


I've got one of those mini-booster battery packs that can jump a V8 or recharge your cell phone with adapter cables in the kit. 
Do a search for NOC Genius Boost Plus for an example.  I've got a different brand but can attest that those things will jump-start a V8 engine.

I know it's not a spare but don't overlook carrying a torch. I carry two a little LED 90 deg one and a hands free LED headlamp torch.

A SPARE HES!!!  :yow Good lord man, if I could afford a spare one of those I'd fear for my safety that roving bands of k75 hoodlums would accost me on their ailing mounts and relieve me of that electronic jewel    :hehehe

Actually, a couple years ago I bought a complete K75S drive train on eBay for $75.  After selling a few of the parts(final drive, transmission, handlebars)  The rest was free.  Best buy I ever made for spare parts.

HES assemblies do show up on eBay from time to time at prices as low as $35.  That's what I paid for the backup for my K100.  You just have to keep an eye out for them.
