Fuel injector Test Unit Cheap.
« on: September 04, 2017, 02:41:53 AM »
Sent the day making a fuel injector spray pattern tester. I really wanted a short fat MAP propane bottle but settled for what I had lying around,  I'll update and paint it when I get the shorter bottle.

The drawing and pictures explain most of the manufacturing, except for the pickup in the tank which consists of a bent bit of 1/4" copper tube and a 1/4 Bspt male to 1/4" tube fitting. I tightened the tube into the fitting and then ground down the tube nut to 12mm, this made it smaller than the flats on the fitting. I drilled a 12mm hole into the side of the bottle just below the shoulder, the 1/4" tube is then inserted into the hole and silver soldered, this leaves the 1/4" Bspt protruding. The 1/4" valve is screwed onto this along with the hoses and a fuel filter. The outlet on the bottle is drilled through and a cap was bought from Bunnings. this cap was drilled and tapped to take a 1/4" Bspt to air line fitting.

The clamp and fuel injector adapter is optional, as a piece of 13mm hose can be clamped onto the injector inlet. you the need to use a 8mm to 13mm line reducer. At the moment I'm using a 2 litre soft drink bottle until I find something better. I drilled the cap to take the injector, it needs to be a tight fit. I also put a small hole in the neck to stop any  possible pressure build up, probably unnecessary. Electrics consist of a 9v battery and a push switch contained in a jiffy box. You will need really small female connectors to connect to the injector  and cover them with heat shrink.

I borrowed an injector to get all the measurements, and when I finished the test unit I found out it was stuffed. I'll have to wait for next weekend and then test my own injectors.

I'll add the drawing at a later date for some unknown reason, it comes up with an error.
