Hi All
Been lurking in this forum for quite some time and so far this has been a source of invaluable information before buying the bike. My first post so far :yes
So she is standing in the garage finally - 1993 K1100LT 66000kms on the odo. Swiss import in absolutely clean condition. Unfortunately been standing most of her life and for the past year non stop - more on this later.
I do have quite a lot of wrenching experience having owned a good couple of oldies and now couple more of bikes... but one thing puzzled me A LOT!
I recently replaced tranny, FD and engine oils and upon leaving the level in the engine was just a smudge over the middle dot. I did the filter so did not undo the drain plug at all. To my amazement I managed to put in just 3,2l of oil... Besides... When I came in the next day the bike was 3/4 full.
Soooooo.... Undid the three six mm bolts and drained it to the middle dot. I DID NOT RUN THE BIKE SINCE THEN. Today morning the level went up by another 2-3mm. Quite a noticeable climb!
:dunno2: sooo? Any guesses? Anyone? It is virtually impossible for the oil to go back to the pan soooo long after the ride. Two days ago! Come on! Is it?
Also the retirement period for the mighty K did more harm than good. Left leg started to develop a slight mist of oil and... She is weeping engine oil both front and back hole :( and I THINK I can feel a trace of clutch slip in fifth when I pin the throttle but I might as well be paranoid a bit and being unable to properly interpret the brick sounds - so as long as there is no significant slippage I will run it as is... It still is no more than 1000kms this season and we re done for winter when I plan to do the major stuff ie splines and deal with the leakages.
All in all wonderful bike and really easy handling and nimble for the weight. Initial consumption 5l/100km. Me happy :)
Any suggestions as far as the oil are welcome. Off course bike is cold and on the center stand.
Best regards from Poland
