what in sam hill did these come off of??
« on: August 15, 2017, 11:49:32 AM »
Taking the instrument cluster apart today to try to fix a warped tach backing and when I opened it this spring and clip fell out.

I don't see where they might be missing from unless somehow they attach to the trip meter knob, but I don't see any spring and clip in the breakout photo of the manual.

I have found reference to the trip knob spring. Can anyone confirm this is the trip knob spring and clip and any guide to reinstalling?

That is what I thought they went too when I first saw your picture. the knob is spring loaded so you pull it out so you can reinstall the cover and then it's slot lines up with the trip meter. Here is picture from MaxBMW, of course, NLA, if you needed a replacement.

In the MOTOBRICK.COM Repair Guidance section's Master List, there is the category Controls and Instruments. Currently at the top of that category's list is a link to a post containing five exploded drawings of the instrument cluster and a link to the drawings' source. To the fifth drawing I have added a red arrow indicating the spring.
