K100RS 1984 Project


Finally got the contraband home (approx 6mths stashed in mate's garage)


Have done all the fluids except front forks: some good some bad... 6 (dirty) Litres in the engine - capacity is 3.75L. No wonder it had difficulty starting (2 of 4 spark plugs had loose caps as well)


Fournales rear suspension removed for now ... French equivalent of Ohlins. Needs some attention
Great having parts bike to add bits from.


Bodged up fuel pump mount - usual problem (old fuel and rubber perished). Used 4 cms of submersible fuel hose cut lengthways into quarters and forced between pump and white plastic mounting bracket. Seems quite secure. Maybe 8 pieces would be better. Hopefully will remember to give update in 6 to 12 mths time.




Fairing is an untasty Krauser. Need to replace screen - heat gun and "copper log", fairing needs filling sanding and repaint.


Got some strap-ons somewhere - isn't that what makes a cafe racer Laitch? (we all know you love 'em)

Anyway, is the fuel hose pump shim a tested method of yours or is this bodge the result of a recent flash of enlightenment yet to undergo field trials?

Exhaustive field trials to follow.

Might double pieces of hose to 8.

Will give update at later date.

Has anybody else done something else? There are a few new members despairing at the cost of some parts no doubt.

The pump is now higher in the mount and  you will lose some usable fuel. Can you reposition the pump lower?


I just noticed the the retainer looks backwards. The squeeze tabs should be toward the top of the pump.

There are a few fuel resistant rubbers around, neoprene, polypropylene, polyethylene, just google fuel resistant rubber. A mate has experimented with soaking pool noodle foam in petrol. I'll ask him how it went and report back.

somebody had a tiny aftermarket pump and used anti slosh gas tank foam to encase it.

the alignment err ... is backwards.
Guilty as charged.


By way of explanation it was the last thing I got to after several joyful hours in therapy and had not yet tried to install it.
Son's science experience saw me back down there and realised faux pax. Needless to say, no further progress on working model of mangonel.
Easily turned around. Managed 8 pieces in. Can be slid down.


There is some play due to the 6 mm or so the rubber mount provides underneath. Big nitril o-ring maybe. Got a box of the buggers cheap on ebay.


Which, perhaps by way of distraction and smoke screen...

Bought a tennis racquet shaped mosquito zapper (uses batteries to fry them mid air). All was good until son broke it. Thankfully, after removing the rest of the head, I now had a cattle prod for encouraging him to do what he was asked first time ... until fun police banned it with "stop electrocuting the kids!"
