Maybe I'm too bold to ask, but I'm doing a valve adjustment on my '88 K75C.  Fuel mileage was about 35.5mpg, and so I'm going through procedures that might rectify this.  Bike has relatively low miles, but who knows what the PO did?

I used the Lively tools and they work great.  Front exhaust valve is tight with .216mm clearance.  Middle exhaust valve is tight with .229mm clearance.  Front had a 2.6mm shim, middle had a 2.55mm shim.  The front needs a 2.55mm shim to get a .266mm gap, so I'll reuse the middle's for this.  The middle needs a 2.5 to get the gap at .279.

 At Bob's, a 2.5 shim is over $13 with $10 shipping.

Does anyone have a 2.5mm shim or 2 they could send me?  Between cardboard taped in an envelope would be a postage stamp.

Also, Should I set the front exhaust clearance at .266 (2.55 shim) or .316 (2.5 shim), these are my two options?

Thanks guys!

Thanks al!

MAX BMW shim prices range from $9.24 to $13.33, and their shipping charges are usually better than Bob's by a few bucks. Free M&M's, too...

Well, I was hoping that there would be numerous motobrickers with coffee cans filled with unused shims who would love to help out a fellow K bike owner who was courageously taking on mechanical challenges he'd never attempted before in his unmechanical past.  If I had unused shims and came upon my request, I'd tape them in cardboard inserts, tape them inside a sturdy envelope, and send them to the needy K bike guy and pay for the stamp.

What do you have to trade there, rall275? That might pique some interest from the less charitable members.

If it were my bike, I'd go with the .266 setting myself.

Have you gone to your local Kawasaki dealer?   Kawasaki uses the same shims in some of their bikes(the KLR650 comes to mind).  I got shims at a dealer and was able to exchange two of them for used shims the dealer had in his service dept. inventory.

Have you done a search on eBay for BMW K75 shims?

They are out there.  You don't have to pay the stupid BMW price.

I usually don't have much luck wheeling and dealing with businesses, especially when it won't make 'em lucrative profits.  I did look on ebay and there are none.  2.75 x 29 shims are available, but not 2.5mm shims.

I guess I've been chastened for daring to solicit for some used K shims, but I thought the helpful membership would have extras around they'd part with.  I guess K75's are such an obsolete machine that there are few parts and few owners, so it's a bit of a lonely road to ride if you have one.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions

Thanks man, but I need a 2.5mm.  I'm using the 2.55 from one of my valves on another, leaving me with the need for one 2.5.  Thanks again for the offer!

I pulled the fuel injectors off my '88 K75C and have them boxed up to send to Mr. Injector out of Idaho.  I don't necessarily suspect issues, but I'm trying to rehab my bike and remedy a low fuel mileage issue (35.5mpg).

Yesterday I checked my valves and found 2 tight exhaust valves and am looking to get a 2.5mm shim to loosen one of the valves as the other I will use a recycled shim.

Also, check the Mass Airflow Sensor to see that it is not acting up.  The wiper for the resistor array can become "electrically dirty", resulting in false information about airflow being sent to the ICU.  There are videos online that talk about servicing equivalent sensors for Volvo, Audi, etc.

Thanks, I'll take it.  I have a 2.6mm if you'd like me to send that to you?  If so, send me you address.

A first class stamp's all you need as a letter can be up to 1/4" thick and up to an ounce.  I'd sandwich it in some cardboard and tape that to the inside of the envelope.

Thanks Texas!
Sorry, don't have any thin ones or I'd be sending 'em your way.
Maybe another motobricker will read this and come to the rescue.

Again, many thanks!

If you can't afford $20 you probably can't afford the bike. Just buy the shim.

recycle, reduce waste, save money, help out another bricker.  Good for karma.  Put a wanted ad over on ibmwr.org.  Other forums swap and trade items, keeps the marque alive!

thanks to tx brick, that 2.5 worked great and is installed!

yeah, if you have unused shims and a fellow K biker is needing one, what's the problem with helping out?  I thought I was cranky, but I'm reevaluating that self opinion.

Thanks to all that helped.  Now to injector cleaning, TB synching, maybe Hall Sensor, vacuum line replacement.

Moby Brick is using a bit more oil than I think it should.   I've done the valve guide seals and now suspect the oil control rings are bad.  Can someone send me a free 16 valve K100 engine with low miles?

I will split shipping costs. :2thumbup:

Cranky or not you are still a Leach and will always be a Leach at motobrick.com.

The problem is not with helping out.  The problem is on your first post you boldly asked for free stuff, and directed as how it is to be shipped and how the shipper shall invest in the postage as well.

LEACH
1) leach is a type of person who does their best to suck your personal wealth out of you, without actually causing pain, but just extreme annoyance after you notice it is happening.

For this reason I am going to suggest that Mystic Red ban you from ever posting here again.  Nobody likes a Leach except the narcissistic Leach himself.

I know a narcissist leach like rall275.  He is no longer with us.  He died from loving himself to death.

They found a barn full of free stuff that he acquired from reasonable folks, and his enormous bank roll was left to The Clinton Foundation.

A reasonable man would not ask for free stuff from strangers and name The Clinton Foundation as his sole beneficiary.

Pathetic.
