K100LT Weak Brakes
« on: August 08, 2017, 06:23:11 PM »
Hello, I have a K100LT w/abs. I'm in the process of restoring it and I changed the brake fluid. I used a mityvac and have bleed many motorcycle brakes before. The lever feel solid and the rear brake feels solid as well. I slammed on the brakes pretty hard in the way that my other bikes would throw me over the handle bars but this bike brings me to a gradual stop. I have not replaced the brake pads yet and prior to me it had been sitting for 10 years. I've never known pads to just go bad. Is this possible? I have ridden 10 miles intentionally hitting the brakes to see if I could wear any residual film or what have you from 10 years of sitting.

I looked over the soft lines and I have seen no obvious bulging.

Ideas?

I had a similiar issue with my brakes when I restored my bike.  It turned out that even though I thought I had bled and rebled the brakes there was still air in the lines.

I would bleed through at least three full reservoirs of fluid and try again.

It also is a good idea after that to tie the brake leave back about half way and leave it over night for an residual bubbles to rise to the surface.

Good luck

Normally vacuum bleeding gets all the air out easily. What is the condition off the discs? You could also try scuffing the pads and cleaning the discs.

Do you want to be thrown over the handlebars?
