Over the years, my speedometer pins have had to be messed with enough that it appears now the ribbon is delaminating. Again, I had to look at the pins today after intermittent speedo readings started occurring again for the first time in a couple years. This time, I noticed that the ribbon is delaminating, which over time, could spell curtains for the odometer. I cleaned and tweaked the pins- something I haven't done before, and put a light carbon conducting lube on them and reseated. I also put foam over the pins, but stuck them to the outter case, that when put back on, applies force to the pins. Maybe this will help the intermittent problem.
As a question- has anyone done a complete ribbon bypass with direct-soldered wires to the speedo as a permanent fix? It appears that the engineering of the bike will outlast the cluster- my intermittent speedo is looking terminal... Pun intended...
