My K75 is fitted with a K1100LT paralever backend. I was debugging a different problem on the bike and needed to run the rear wheel under engine power, in gear while on the center stand.  Being the first time I've done this, I was concerned when I saw the paralever final drive moving in sympathy with the rotation.  It hops in time with what appears to be the lower U-joint changing orientation.  I assembled the drive making doubly sure that the drive shaft was phased properly.  Afterwards, I double checked to make sure that there was no problems with the pivot bearings; there is no play laterally in the rear wheel.

Is this normal behavior for an unloaded Paralever?  Or is this a sign of an impending U-joint failure?

What you could do is to disconnect the shock at the FD, and then raise up the paralever to a "loaded" level and see if it still makes the noises or other movement.

Thanks Scott.  In normal operation, there is absolutely no indication of vibration or unusual noises coming from the drive.  The bike is silky smooth in motion.  This could be verification of what you're proposing -- reducing the angle on the U-joint to see if it works within operational limits of shock travel.

sounds like driveshaft isnt balanced properly... you did balance it before you phased it... didnt you...

I think I have solved the problem. When I attached the rear wheel drive, I didn't preload the bike with an 85 Kg load and torque the strut fastener to 45 NM.  Silly oversight on my part.

QUESTION: What should be the torque on the fastener that secures the strut to the tangs on the transmission side?  I can't find any value in the K1100 workshop manual.  Should this also be 41 NM?
