Preventve maintenance on the fan?
« on: June 23, 2012, 12:11:24 PM »
Joel also noted, in his most recent test of our 95K11, that his thighs were burning.  That probably can be fixed by a Johnny blanket.
But he was also wondering about the fan, and has proposed pulling it, cleaning it, and lubricating it.   I wasn't able to find anything on "preventive maintenance" on the fan: is it worth the effort to pull the fan and attempt such preventative steps?

Main thing to do is make sure it runs occasionally. Let it idle after a ride if need be.

Ducker probably has teh answer, but turning the fan once in a while is good prevention.  Mine had fried the brush holder, so I am not sure if there is any more prevention, except turning the fan or allowing it to run occassionally.

Taking the fan apart is a major deal, hoses, fairings, anti freeze, etc.  Best left to Spline lube days, when everythign is already off.  JMO

This.  Otherwise corrosion will build up and seize it.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

The fan does cycle on and off, but sounds as if it's chewing up a bushing or bearing.
Head wrench and kibitzer for:

Loose fan?........rubbing against the radiator.....have happened before.....result radiator leak.
