This fall I plan to replace the rubber fuel pump damper and filter (age unknown). I see that beemerboneyard sells the damper, retaining clip, and screen as a kit.

I wouldn't expect any issues every with the clip or screen. Why replace them? Can the screen be cleaned? Does the clip get brittle with age and is it likely that one or both of the clips/ ears will break during the process?

Sometimes they must be replaced because the combination of old fuel and disuse breaks down those components, too. If yours are intact, that's good. Having spares is good.

I just pulled the pump on an 86 that sat for years, I'm looking at the complete "Norris" replacement on beemerboneyard for about $300.00. I might be able to just replace the damper, screen and hoses but I'm thinking just replace now rather than piece meal.
In the tank it didn't look to bad, after further review:

Mine are flakey. The vibration dampener is brittle and parts are lying in the bottom of the tank. The plastic faired better. I'd also check the vacuum hose it may look fine, chances are it will be brittle. The screen can also get brittle and crack. It'll circulate bits back in to the filter and pump. The bits you can't see with the naked eye or at least an eye in a bikini. Over time, more money to fork over.

I just finished a 1991 K1 tank . The bike had been sitting in a shed for seven years. the gas had solidified to an Amber like substance. New innards all around.
However when I reinstalled the tank and added a gallon of gas I had a weep on the left side underneath seam.
I disassembled the tank again and sealed all the seams inside with PoR 15. It will take about 10 days to do it correctly.
