Alternator noise

Hi Guys

Its time for me to call on the assembled knowledge of the forum - I've got a noisy alternator and/or alternator drive.

If its the alternator bearings - I'm reasonably comfortable I can replace them no problems but if its the drive thats noisy what can I do about that ?

ANyone got a decent diagram of how it all fits together ? the Clymer isn't exactly clear

It's most likely that yer "monkey-nutz"  (rubber alternator bushings) are worn and need to be replaced.

If it is the monkey nutz when you get new ones put a tiny dab of super glue on each one to fasten them in place in the drive section on the alternator as it makes the job a heap easier.  Also the outside of the thingy you put the nutz in has a mark on the outside corresponding with the position of the gaps to mate with the engine part.

I have an extra driving dog so what I do is put some silicone/RTV on the backs of them, insert the driving dog and let it sit for a little while for the adhesive cures.  It also makes installation easier if you Armor-All them (or use another lubricant) where the centers of them slide over the vanes of the driving dog.

    If the "monkey nutz" are bad, there's a chance the drive cup (#7 in Duck's picture) also is bad with the drive vanes broken.  That's how it was when I replaced the monkey nutz on my (sold almost 2 years ago) '95 K75RT.  The monkey nutz are the same part number (I think), but the drive cup is different for the 460 watt alternator vs the 700 watt alternator.
