Shifting locked up
« on: April 14, 2016, 11:38:41 AM »
Hey folks. I can't seem to switch gears on my k75. It sounds like it shifts up to Neutral, but I can't shift anywhere above it. Feels like its locked up. Clutch seems be engaging fine, and I've spun the rear wheel but no help. I'm new to the K bikes, so hope this isn't a stupid question, but does it need to be on for the transmission to shift? Just trying to figure out the issue before I start working through other aspects of the bike.

Will it shift into first gear and engaged the rear drive with the transmission? Have you ever seen this engine run or the bike shift?

I can shift mine without the engine running, but I've haven't need to do that often. My bike is run hard on the road six months of the year so idleness or neglect of maintenance has not gummed up its works.

Should shift with the engine off.  It's a dry clutch so may be more glitchy that those wet clutch machines.  if it's in gear try bumping it, if it's in neutral or a false neutral it should drop into gear with the wheel turning.

greetings...

look at the clutch lever down by the swing arm... is it moving up when you pull the hand lever... is it returning all the way when you release the hand lever...

Thanks for all the help. Apparently the dry clutch and years of non-use made it seem locked up. Turns out it was in 5th but just needed a little more coersion than i was giving it. Rechecked the clutch cable, spun the wheel, and gave it a little more muscle and viola! Shifting fine now with no problems. Maybe years of non use stiffened it up a bit. Thanks

Good to hear.  Hope the fuel was drained before storage or the rubber mount around the fuel pump will turn to ugly goo.

Thanks. Fuel pump is new, so no known issues from gas storage. Still cant get over the fuel pump terminals and sensor connections being submerged in gas though. Didnt see that one coming.

Didnt see that one coming.

More interesting surprises ahead. I've heard that the engine output shaft spins in the opposite direction of the crankshaft. Mysterious.........

Sounds like "blinker fluid" or "piston return spring" BS doesn't it? But might it be true? You know what else would be surprising - a steering damper that's hidden inside the steering head.

Glad the tranny released for you.

don't forget the tach and speedo faces might warp if left in the sun.
