k100 Swingarm Bearings
« on: April 11, 2016, 10:17:00 AM »
Looking for one of these. I killed one of the races, because it got stuck.

May have been a costly mistake. But does anyone have one of these- Stock race/bearing?

Thanks!

Get the old one out and take it to a bearing supply house.  They'll have a replacement.  You can also go to Max BMW and get the bearing dimensions off the parts fiche.  My K75RT has it listed as "tapered roller bearing 40 x 17 x 17".   That is all you need to get a new one.  Price will be pretty close to the BMW price, maybe a buck less.  $72 ouch!

I can tell you the ones on eBay don't work. Regardless of the claims made.

I don't know of any bearing supply house here.

But perhaps someone here has a trashed swingarm?

Here, if you really live in Reno, I saved you the trouble of doing a search:

I have had good experience with All Balls bearings. Have you tried contacting them for the swingarm?

You can find a complete swingarm on eBay - just try to get something from a bike with low miles and the bearings might still be in great shape.

I have a spare swingarm with decent (but not new) bearings. It's a black one from a 1990 K75s. Send me a PM if interested.

My swingarm is blasted and ready to be painted. Unless I can buy one of the bearings off a member here, I will settle for the 70$  eek. But I will keep checking eBay.

That's what I did... $15 swingarm. So far, so good.

Maybe pop the dust caps on the new one and press some fresh grease in before mounting on the bike.

Do you have the bearing brand and number on that?
2018 R1200RT 8,000 miles,2004 R1150RT 189,000 miles
1991 K100LT 128,700 miles,1982 R100RT 106,900 miles
The cheapest thing on a BMW is the nut that connects the seat to the handlebars.

Is it really that easy though? Does the bearing number and what kind of races it also needs and seals and all of that? I suppose I only need to race but I'm just curious...

The first bearing is the one on the main output shaft. I wanted to replace this but apparently BMW is on some sort of crazy backorder, the other one is of course the swing arm.

Apparently on this thread you can only get this though BMW.
