speedo calibration

Firstly thanks to Frankenduck for his info on speedo calibration from 2011.  I am renovating a British registered K75C (1986) and I have cannibalized two speedos (one in mph and the other in kph) to end up with one in kph to comply with French requirements.  The first bench test went well and I re calibrated the speedo with the Karamba software without problems.  On a trial run the speedo got as far as 40 kph and no further no matter how hard I tried.  I have the speedo back on the bench and testing it using the Karamba software and all  works fine up to 100 kph, after that the needle falls back to about 80 and wanders about.   I don't think the local Monsieur Gendarme  would follow my line of defence!
Could this be a case of bad contact?  I cleaned the pins but no real improvement.  Any ideas?

Well I sorted the problem myself - I write this in case anyone out there is trying to battle with a speedo. 
Firstly the speedo sticking at 40 kph - I cannibalized two speedos and the bodies must have had slight differences; once I matched the guts to the casing all worked well - the needle must have been fouling the glass! 
Second problem fluctuating values on the software above 100 kph - try another computer! 
It has been an interesting experience working on the speedo unit - the easy bit was changing the odometer from mph to kph - just swop the cogs and all goes well.
