Uber tank bag mergefest
« on: July 21, 2011, 01:12:10 PM »
Edit by frankenduck: Doing a little cleanup.  Decided we have way too many tank bag threads. Merging them all into this thread.

Well, I think the subject says it all. Has anyone modified their gas tank filler assembly to allow mounting of 'hard mount' tank bags (a la Givi, Cortech, etc.)? Is there enough material there to tap X # of holes and mount an adapter ring? Might be a neet trick ...

Not sure where to post this.  But, does anyone know of a source for tank bags that will fit K bikes?  Thanks

Lots of strap-on bags will fit pretty well. (Don't get a magnetic one as the tank is aluminum.)

Or keep your eye out of Fleabay for a factory one.

Hello, I bought a RKA tank bag off eBay a while back for my 89 k100rs. Not as nice as the BMW tank bag but for the price it was a very good deal and kind of classic period looking. One other site you may want to look at is the BMW Internet Riders page. Good luck looking, kenray down in Katy TX.

Couple of thoughts re the OEM tank bags.  If they are old, the elastic is gonna be questionable.  It can be repaired, but you should figure that into any bids you make on EBay. Secondly, the BMW bags use a metal hook on the front lip of the fuel tank.  That is virtually impossible to fit on my 1985 K100RS.  There's a rubber bit that fouls the hook so as often as not it's not secure and/or scratches the paint when I am wrestling with it  :-\

I had an 85 K100RS for a while.  Had no problems with the OEM tank bag.

I have had this Eclipse tank bag for over 30 years, first on my 1978 R100/7, now on my 91 RS.  Fits perfect...

Here is the link to the bag I have

I ordered a couple of new map covers recently - so they are still in business.

I have a cheapo BILT bag from cycle gear. Worked fine. A bit of creativity to strap it on well.

Wolfman makes some nice looking bags. I may go that route if I can't find a used factory bag for a decent price.

I am not a big tank bag fan myself, but check http://www.wunderlichamerica.com too.  I have one on my GT and while pretty spendy, is a very nice bag. Well built, nice features and cavernous.

Nice, score j o!

Bob-  I checked out the Eclipse bag as I'm in the market for one.  Looks like a solid, feature-packed bag - at a super price! Soon as I can, gonna get one...(self employed and work is slow right now....)

Got a part/product number/name on that?  Does it hit the horn button like the OEM one?

www.eclipseluggage.com

I just ordered the 202-A model.
At $71.95 (on sale) it was a good option even with the freight

Damn it, blasting down Interstate 80 in the hammer lane this AM to buy milk when my tank-bag rain cover blows off into the great unknown. Impossible to backtrack during rush hour without getting run over.

Holy ch!t, $26.00 for a replacement. Plan is to return and scour the tarmac thoroughly, hopefully it will still be intact roadside.

Has anyone here ever substituted a cover with a clear shower cap ?   I would like to be able to view the map pocket.  Pros Cons ?

Just curious what people have found to be good non-OEM tank bags.  Pics and a brief review would be nice. :k75s
