Gear Indicator Brittle and Falling Apart

Has this happened to anybody else? I am not sure if it is from old age, heat, or gear oil from the leaking clutch rod cup, but the gear indicator switch is falling apart where the wires come out of the switch; the plastic or resin that and encapsulates the wires is disintegrating. Has anybody had any luck using JB Weld to re-encapsulate the wires? Anything else recommended? The piece that mounts to the transmission is solid however.

I've been thinking, the next time I have my swingarm off, to wrap something disposable around the circumference of the switch and fill it with epoxy.

I had a similar issue, and it seems to be a chronic failure point.  I did give mine a skim coat of JB Weld to hold the fragments together and it seems to work just fine.  Don't build the layer up too much on the sides where the mounting bolts are located, as you might have an issue aligning the bolts and getting a straight shot with a socket.
