K75 unwanted ABS
« on: August 16, 2015, 09:15:17 PM »
Hi everyone,

So I have got a K75 and it has the ABS system. I'm doing a cafe racer build and I want to take the system out.
Has anyone done this before? If so what is the process and easiest way without having to cut any wires etc?

Cheers in advance Tim.

I did it.

The ABS modules can be unplugged at the cable ends and removed from the bike. Most of the blue connectors are ABS.
Remove the ABS relay in the relay box.
Bypass the hard brake lines with new shorter brake hoses.
Remove the ABS controller from the cowl.

I think that's it.

Take a few pictures of the existing brake line routing from the rear master cylinder to the caliper before you start. Make sure the new rear brake line follows the same route. It's important to leave enough slack for the rear swing arm to move through its whole range without stressing the brake hose.

It's worth checking with your insurers.
In the UK, if a vehicle is fitted with abs, just like any other electrical fitting like a headlamp and indicators, it must be working.
If not, the brakes are classed as defective, no matter how well they work without abs.
I've heard of a few people falling foul of this.

I bought a 1989 K100 a few months ago that has had the ABS removed at some point, so it can be done. Also, I had no problem registering it in NSW without the ABS.

As an aside, is the K75 and K100 ABS the same? If so, I may be interested in your ABS if you were going to get rid of it.

Cheers,

Chris
