Running Temperature - HOT! HOT! HOT!

Folks, I just refurbished (as my mid life crisis) a 1985 K100RT. It's running, rolling and registered after 8 months of breakdown/rebuild.

So I knew the bike was a HOT (temperature) to ride, but I expected it to be cooler while moving. My hair on legs, through my pant's is slowly being cooked off (or at least it feels like it.)

During the re-furbish, I removed the dry rotted front fork baffles on the underside of the fairing. My theory is that the air is rushing through those holes, across the engine block and seeping around the gaps around the back of the fairing leg pads. OR...the bike is just that hot.

If anyone has any experience with heat management on this bike - particularly if the fork baffle replacement would help - please advise! I already have lower AirWings installed.

motobrick thigh roast is what its called...

my first question is have you verified the fan is coming on and moving air thru the radiator...

if its moving air... you better getts some heat shield material sewed into your riding outfit starting with a codpiece cause the rt motobrick is the hottest of them all...

yup...fans working fine. In fact, the temperature gets just that much worse when it turns on.

Time to some heat shielding. I'll also start looking for engine protector bars to mount some highway pegs to.

i removed everything that caused resistenance to air flow...

some folks put on a johnny blanket...

some folks insulate their fuel lines and install fuel coolers...

some folks put on a fan switch to turn it on before it getts hot...

butts in all reality... itsa thigh roaster...
