Engine Spruce up
« on: May 24, 2015, 06:41:27 PM »
I hope this isn't a dumb ass question, but here goes.
I've just had a replacment engine fitted to my K1100RS which was fitted to a bike which had been standing neglected for some time.
As a result, the bare metal of the engine block is looking horrbily disscoloured.
I know you don't really see it under the fairing, but what you can see is bothering me.
I've tried allsorts, but nothing seems to work.
I'm not looking for shiny, but a nice clean look would be nice, like on my last engine.
Has anyone found a good and simple way of doing this.

I removed 15 years of brownish crud from the bare aluminum parts of my valve and crankcase covers using metal polish (Flitz and Autosol) and an emery cloth and some elbow grease. Did it scratch the aluminum? I don't know - all I know is the crud is gone and it looks a helluva lot better than before.
